Modern mechanical, electrical and electronic systems demand high quality
technical documentation to facilitate safe and effective operation, servicing,
repair, overhaul and parts ordering. Although these systems require
specialised technical maintenance skills, there is a general industry trend
towards multi-skilling, which results in tradesmen and technicians being
responsible for the maintenance of broader ranges of equipment types.
These factors reinforce the requirement for high quality technical
documentation and training to support the personnel responsible for maintenance
and engineering management systems.
We prefer to become involved at the early stages of equipment development or
in-service operation (ideally during the design phase) to make maximum use of
the knowledge of those responsible for system design. Where practicable, work is
carried out on-site to allow ready access to design teams, information and any
prototypes. This ensures that all relevant information is included with the
highest possible accuracy.
We have a wide range of experience at all levels of the maintenance activity,
which flows through to the content and presentation of technical documentation
and training.
We can fully prepare a complete range of technical documentation including:
Key Benefits
- Operation Manuals/Instructions;
- Service Manuals/Instructions;
- Fault Finding and Repair Manuals;
- Overhaul Manuals;
- Parts Manuals; and
- Technical Training and Assessment.
Capabilities
- Research
- MACE has extensive experience in researching and seeking out the
material required to write a technical document. Sources of
information usually include design notes/submissions, drawings,
specifications, parts lists, equipment supplier brochures and documentation
for similar systems, as well as extensive consultation with the designers
and maintenance personnel.
- Writing
- MACE has a broad base of experienced technical writers capable of
writing any level of technical publication for all levels of maintenance
activity, including servicing, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul.
- Illustrating
- Technical documentation requires an appropriate balance of text and
illustrations. MACE use technical illustrators to provide line drawings,
illustrations and annotation of photographs as required.
- Verification/Amendment
- MACE can review any existing documentation to determine its accuracy,
completeness and relevance.
- Processing/Final Copy
- MACE generates documentation templates in any style or format, in a
manner which facilitates quick and cost effective amendment at a later
stage. Final technical documentation can be provided as bound hard
copy or in an electronic format. We can develop complete web or
workstation-based technical documentation systems that have the capability
of displaying both text and interactive graphics.
- Management
- MACE can provide the management/project leader for in-house writing
teams to ensure efficient and effective utilisation of client resources and
the achievement of deadlines and budgets.
- Training and Assessment
- MACE has qualified, experienced trainers who can prepare and present
training programs for technician and operators, based upon technical
documentation. Training material can include Participant’s workbooks,
Facilitator’s guides and presentations.
- We can also conduct training needs analysis and workplace assessments.
- Quality Systems
- MACE make every effort to ensure the highest quality of the final
technical document in terms of presentation, content style and format, using
the following processes:
- Management Plan
- For all projects undertaken, we develop and work to a well-defined
management plan that addresses quality, budget and deadlines.
- Development to a Specification
- Where a specific client standard is not available, we produce
documentation to relevant and recognised technical standards and
specifications.
- Draft Reviews
- Drafts are provided at agreed development milestones for review, comment
and correction by the client.
- Progress from one draft to the next cannot proceed without the express
approval of the client.
